The real jobYou'll build the platform that handles everything from candidate dashboards to enterprise client portals. This isn't CRUD apps - this is real-time systems handling video streams, ML model integration, and somehow making it all feel smooth on a 3G connection in rural India.
Daily reality includes:
Building React interfaces that don't make users want to punch their screen
Writing Node/Python backends that handle video uploads without timing out
Integrating with ML models without understanding exactly how they work
Making WebRTC work reliably (good luck with that)
Building real-time dashboards that actually update in real-time
Creating APIs that other developers won't curse you for
Debugging why something works perfectly locally but breaks in production
Fighting with webpack configs at 3 AM
You probably have:
Built and scaled products to thousands of users
Experience with modern React (hooks, not classes)
Node.js/Python backend experience (Django, FastAPI, Express)
PostgreSQL knowledge beyond SELECT * FROM users
Redis/caching because you've learned the hard way
DevOps skills because who else is going to deploy your code?
Strong opinions about state management
Git history that shows you actually commit regularly
Epic work we love:
Your side project is on ProductHunt's front page
You've contributed to React/Vue/Angular core
Your npm package has millions of weekly downloads
You built and scaled a product solo to significant revenue
Your technical blog posts hit HackerNews front page
You've given talks at conferences about actual things you built
Why people fail:They can't debug without console.log. Or they think ORMs solve all database problems. Or they've never dealt with real users breaking their "perfect" code.
